Frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about the Network for carded athletes

For Athletes

Is there a limit to the number of partners I can connect with?

No, but work with your Athlete Life Advisor to ensure the professional development areas you are tapping in to are enhancing not compromising your training or competition plans.

As a carded athlete do I have to use the Athlete Friendly Network partners?

Not at all, the Athlete Friendly Network is about giving some certainty about the expertise and quality of the businesses, organisations and individuals involved and expanding the options available to carded athletes.  If you already have a great relationship and trust with anyone outside of the Network you are absolutely free to keep working with them.

Is there a cost involved?

There could be - it depends on the area.  Some partners provide their services free of charge or at a discounted rate.  As an example, when using a Network expert facilitator it may be possible to use your Prime Ministers Scholarship funding if the topic fits the criteria.  Talk to your Athlete Life Advisor and search the directory for more details.

What if I can’t find a suitable Network partner?

The network of athlete friendly providers is growing but if you can’t see what you are looking for, talk to your Athlete Life Advisor about where you want support. They can approach our broader network to help you find the assistance you need.

Can I access support through the Network if I'm a Pathway to Podium athlete?

Not currently as the support is targeted at carded athletes.  We recognise that Pathway to Podium athletes are likely to reach carded status, however your support is channelled through your regional Pathway to Podium programme, your local coordinator can advise you on what resources you may have available.

What if I am no longer a carded athlete?

Some areas of the Network are still available to recently decarded athletes, talk to your Athlete Life Advisor as to what areas of support are available to you.  Product discount offers are strictly for carded athletes, you may approach partners directly about continuing their support if you wish but it should be noted that this is outside the scope of the Network.  The other point to note is that the longer term full time career opportunities are often only workable for retiring or decarded athletes.
