HPSNZ Supplement Advisory
The Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) has advised that a number of dietary supplements have listed prohibited substances on their ingredient list. Some of these products may be available in NZ and HPSNZ advises supplements listing the ingredients Higenamine or DMBA should be avoided. These substances may be stated on the ingredient list under other names. For a current list of names and products known to contain either of these substances, please refer to the ASADA Athlete Advisory: https://www.asada.gov.au/news/athlete-advisory-higenamine-and-dmba
HPSNZ is able to advise that supplement products available through the HPSNZ ordering system are not affected.
Athletes who choose to use supplements are also reminded that supplement product labels can be misleading and do not always reveal the true content or purity of the product. Choosing third party tested products from programme’s such as Informed Sport (www.informed-sport.com) reduces the chances of inadvertently consuming a prohibited substance. Carded Athletes are reminded to seek advice and source their supplements through their HSPNZ Performance Nutritionist and/or Medical Director.
