Tertiary Study Support

High Performance Sport NZ has developed a network of New Zealand Universities which support New Zealand’s high performance athletes. Whilst many tertiary institutions are already providing flexibility to athletes in a case-by-case manner, the Athlete Friendly Tertiary Network enables a more structured and effective system for both athletes and tertiary staff

Coach Accelerator Programme

This is an individual and group programme over three years incorporating 10 residential camps, individual performance and development plans, a mentoring programme and regular performance reviews.

The Coach Accelerator Programme aims to develop coaches:

whose athletes win medals at multiple Olympic Games, Paralympic Games and World Championships
who are influential leaders and strategic thinkers who are highly respected nationally and internationally
who are relentless learners who collaborate to achieve maximum performance gains
who are employed in significant leadership positions within sport
who are sought after by national and international sporting organisations.

CrossRoads Programme

Rationale
For athletes, much like a climber, getting to the top of the mountain is only half the battle, getting back down safely can be equally as challenging. There are many influences on how athletes decompress and make decisions after a pinnacle event.

As soon as the Games is over most athletes will start to head in a number of different directions.  Broadly these can be summarised as ‘definitely continuing’, ‘definitely retiring’ and ‘sitting on the fence’.  Regardless of which group they see themselves in they will seek information as they plan their next step. The Crossroads Forum provides a platform to ensure they have good information and conversations to help ensure those steps are in the right direction.

CrossRoads 2018 will be held in May in Wanaka
