Programmes, Events and Workshops

The Performance Life team offers a variety of learning opportunities. These allow athletes to connect with one another and learn from peers, alumni and other experts.

EMPOWER: Empower is a programme designed to prepare athletes to perform at their best at pinnacle events. In a cross-sport setting, athletes will learn about reflective practice, medal-winning behaviours, planning for performance and advanced communication skills. This bespoke programme is by invitation only.

CROSSROADS: The Crossroads Forum is designed to support athletes post Olympic and Paralympic Games and provides the opportunity to connect and explore their next steps. HPSNZ-supported athletes who are on the Olympic and Paralympic long list will be eligible to apply.

The forum provides information, experiences, and learnings through open conversation and workshop streams. Presentations from athlete alumni, coaches and HP Sport leaders focus on the process of transition, whether it is into another campaign or out of sport. This helps athletes to make informed decisions.

ALUMNI: This is a network of former athletes who share experiences and expertise with each other and with current HPSNZ-supported athletes.

There may be opportunities to attend Performance Life Coaching events, mentor athletes, speak at workshops such as Empower and Crossroads. It also provides a platform for alumni to help with their own transition.

LEADERSHIP: A selected group of athletes chosen by their NSO can participate in a 12-month leadership development programme.

“I found that the EMPOWER course I attended gave me the opportunity to engage in collaborative discussion with other high performance athletes about topics linked to success in our specific disciplines. I also found the frameworks and “The Deliberate Art to Success” we covered, provided me with a few formulaic approaches to decision making that I’ve been able to use in practical settings since!”
