2024/25 Te Hāpaitanga applications open for emerging and high potential women coaches

HPSNZ is calling for applications for the fifth Te Hāpaitanga intake, a unique opportunity to support the development of emerging and high-potential women coaches. The application deadline is Friday, 20 September 2024.

Te Hāpaitanga is an HPSNZ initiative designed to address the complex challenges that women coaches encounter in high performance sport in Aotearoa New Zealand. This programme is part of HPSNZ’s ongoing commitment to promoting women in high performance sport.

The 18-month program builds on the success of previous intakes, offering:

  • A $15,000 Te Hāpaitanga coach scholarship
  • One-on-one mentoring from an experienced high performance coach
  • Participation in immersive residential workshops
  • The chance to connect and grow within a community of like-minded coaches

Te Hāpaitanga is tailored for women who:

  • Are currently coaching athletes on the pre-high performance or high performance pathway, or
  • Have been recognised as potential high performance coaches but are not actively coaching, including those transitioning from elite athletic careers or those returning to coaching after a break.

Tarena Ranui, Director of Women’s Football at Melville United and a graduate of the second Te Hāpaitanga intake, shares:

“There were so many highlights, it’s hard to choose just one. But being part of a supportive coaching community was, and continues to be, incredibly valuable. Even in football, with its many coaches, it can still feel isolating.

“The cross-sport insights and strong mentoring component were essential in helping me evolve my approach.”

Tarena Ranui

Women in both paid and unpaid coaching roles are encouraged to apply. HPSNZ values and welcomes ethnic diversity so our coaching community reflects the high performance community of Aotearoa New Zealand.

To apply for Te Hāpaitanga, a signed NSO Endorsement Form is required. The selection process is open and competitive, as outlined in the Te Hāpaitanga Guidelines.

Applications close at midnight, Friday 20 September 2024. For more information, application guidelines, and the application form, visit the Downloads section here.
