Update on the Employment Relations Authority hearing

30 May 2023

Following the hearing at the Employment Relations Authority (ERA) in Wellington on February 9, The Athletes’ Cooperative (TAC) and High Performance Sport New Zealand (HPSNZ) agreed to meet to see if matters relating to the hearing can be resolved independently.

The two parties have met twice and have now agreed protocols to continue their negotiations.

Representatives from Cycling NZ and Rowing NZ were at the second meeting and will now participate in the ongoing process.

HPSNZ Director of High Performance, Steve Tew, says:

“These conversations have been positive and constructive, and we look forward to working together for the betterment of the athletes and all the people in our high performance system.”

TAC Board member, Mahé Drysdale, added:

“We are encouraged by the opportunity to commence formal negotiations on the key issues of importance to the sporting system, athletes and key stakeholders, and look forward to exploring practical solutions to the issues raised.”

The parties have agreed that the ERA will be asked to continue the suspension of its ruling until further notice.

The ongoing discussions are confidential and further comment will be made at an appropriate time.
