High Performance Review into Cycling NZ HP Programme

The Review started on 6 June 2018 and is being undertaken by an Independent Reviewer in accordance with the Terms of Reference which have been agreed by HPSNZ and Cycling NZ.

In summary, the scope of the Review, is to:

  • Determine whether the various allegations made about the culture of the Cycling NZ High Performance Programme since 2016 are true including claims of bullying, inappropriate behaviour, inappropriate personal relationships, a drinking culture, lack of accountability and lack of follow up ; and
  • Review both Cycling NZ and HPSNZ’s responses to the allegations to assess whether those responses, and the rules, policies and procedures to manage them, were adequate and appropriate.

 

The Independent Reviewer is former Solicitor General and Queens Counsel, Michael Heron.

Michael will be interviewing many athletes, coaches, support personnel and staff at both HPSNZ and Cycling NZ over the coming weeks. He will also interview some former athletes, coaches and staff of both organisations. These people will be contacted directly by Michael Heron.

In addition, a confidential email address has been established for this Review through which any person may contact Michael Heron directly to provide information which is or may be relevant to the Review.

All information provided to the Reviewer will be confidential and as far as possible be anonymised and not identified in the final report. While all reasonable steps will be taken to protect the privacy of individual’s personal information, HPSNZ and Sport NZ are subject to the Official Information Act.
