Wellbeing and Engagement Lead, Dr Toni Minniti, says the team has made a big push to get important new resources out into the sector so that National Sports Organisations (NSOs) can head into the new year with a growing toolbox of support.
“Introducing the new resources is exciting and we hope to supplement the existing resources which are available through our Wellbeing Programme pages on the website,” says Toni.
The appointment of Bruna Lima in the newly created role of Wellbeing Programme Advisor has been a real boon for Toni.
“Bruna is working with me as part of Wellbeing and Engagement efforts to support the development and implementation of specific projects to the Wellbeing Programme and the Athlete Mental Health and Performance Framework.”
Bruna brings extensive mental health and wellbeing experience to the role having worked as a registered psychologist in her home country, Brasil, in Ireland and most recently in New Zealand in the Intensive Wraparound Service which has provided her with a cultural foundation in Te Ao Māori and an in-depth knowledge of supporting people.
An important new initiative, the HPSNZ Wellbeing Scan, is part of a multi-phased measurement project, developed following extensive consultation and designed to provide a high-level wellbeing systems overview for NSOs.
“The Wellbeing Scan is designed to be completed by athletes, coaches and support staff annually, and will provide insight into general indicators about environmental and systems-related aspects of wellbeing within high performance sport contexts,” says Toni.
“A primary objective is that the scan promotes discussion within sports about what the findings mean which will lead to developing action plans that contribute to ongoing wellbeing systems development.”
The Wellbeing Scan is currently being piloted within an NSO and learnings and insights will be used to inform the initial rollout to podium sports in March 2025.
“Another new tool is the Onboarding Guidance resource which has been developed to support sports in the planning and delivering of this important process,” says Toni.
The Onboarding Guidance resource has been created in collaboration with representatives from Performance Pathways, Wellbeing NSO leads, Performance Life and the Wellbeing Programme. Its aim is to optimise performance and wellbeing for all parties by way of deliberate alignment to ensure seamless transitions throughout the pathway.
The guidance will be available on the Wellbeing Programme pages with forthcoming webinar opportunities to support NSOs with implementation.
