Athlete Health – Performance Therapy and Sports Medicine

Our network of experienced practitioners deliver performance focussed solutions in training and competition environments. We work collaboratively within the performance team to optimise your athletic potential and minimise time away from sport due to injury through effective rehabilitation and injury prevention programmes.

We work proactively with you and your coach as an integrated team to improve movement efficiency, muscle balance and force transfer during functional and sport specific movement patterns and identify when and why movement may breakdown resulting in an injury.

Our doctors and therapists are experts sports medicine and therapy for high performance athletes, having a broad understanding of health and performance. Taking a holistic and collaborative approach to injury and illness diagnosis, treatment, prevention and rehabilitation, the team plays an important role in optimising your health and performance.

If you’re an athlete keen to find out what HPSNZ Performance Support you might be able to access based on where you are on the Performance Pathway, please talk to your national sports organisation (NSO) in the first instance.

Erica Dawson, Olympic Sailor

“Five weeks out from the Olympics, it was touch and go whether we would be able to compete as I broke my leg. The care, expertise and professionalism from the incredible Performance Therapists working in yachting helped me to maximise my healing potential and expedite my return to sport, enabling myself and Micah to get on the start in Tokyo.”

Jennifer Scott, Head of Performance Therapy

“It is a privilege to work as a Performance Therapist alongside our elite athletes. We are involved in their performance journeys often from the beginning of their careers through to their retirement and these journeys are often filled with highs and lows. To help athletes perform to the best of their abilities we are constantly looking for new approaches to help impact performance and evolving our practice accordingly. A fusion of science and art, Performance Therapies is a dynamic field to work in, and within HPSNZ we are fortunate enough to work collaboratively with many disciplines to help our athletes and coaches meet their performance goals.”
